Outreach
Dr. Magin is a virtual mentor in the Couragion application.
Couragion is an interactive student-led journey that provides insight into the working lives of professionals. It builds awareness of career pathways and opportunities in STEM.
Our laboratory has collaborated with Couragion to study how exposure to scientific role models and work-based microbadging through the app influences STEM career mindsets in middle school students. We showed that intent to pursue a STEM career, confidence, motivation, and enjoyment and hope that widely implementing this type of intervention during middle school could help narrow the representation gap in STEM fields.
